On April 1, 2006, Women's College Hospital began operating independently under the Public Hospitals Act, Ontario’s first and only academic ambulatory care hospital and the province’s only hospital with a primary focus on women’s health.

Our revitalized organization has two key commitments: to become a world leader in women’s health, and to achieve academic leadership in ambulatory care. Over the next several years, we will create an academic hospital of the future, one that improves the patient’s experience while expanding access and improving efficiency. We will build upon our decades of achievement, leveraging our strengths to chart a transformative path ahead.

While many things will stay the same – such as our affiliation with the University of Toronto as a teaching hospital – we will also strategically re-build to create a new approach to health care delivery and expand capacity. Primary care, specialized medical care, diagnostics and surgical services will continue to play a leading role, while we generate new knowledge and share our learning about women’s health and ambulatory care with other health care providers and consumers.

Over the next eight years, we also plan to completely transform our 76 Grenville Street site into a brand new, state-of-the-art ambulatory care facility. The redevelopment will pay close attention to the patient experience, providing warm and welcoming spaces, more privacy, and more effective movement of people.

We will deliver new thinking about women, their medicine, their healthcare and their hospital.
